Study Finds Acupuncture Successful to Relieve Menstrual Pain
A study published in the February, 2008 issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology confirms acupuncture’s success in relieving menstrual pain.
The German study comprised 201 women suffering from menstrual pain, severe cramps, and discomfort. The women were randomly assigned to an acupuncture group and a “no treatment” group. The majority of the patients that received acupuncture reported at least a 33% improvement in their level of pain.
After three months of treatment, the average pain score was a 3.1 in the acupuncture group compared with a 5.4 in the control group, using a pain scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the worst pain). The treatment included an average of about 10 sessions.
